Message The "advantage of JSpec engines" is that they are cheap and plentiful in Japan for various market reasons, which in turn means that it *CAN* be more cost effective to just replace with a JSpec then rebuilt a US one.

The differences are minor and all external parts can be swapped over pretty simply, however my understanding is that the Jspec units use what we call the "automatic" turbos and cam duration/profile. (I do not know the fine details).

Bottom line is this, anyone claiming that a JSpec engine is somehow "better" then a US in THIS context is full of shit, and there is no reason to replace w. a JSpec for ANY performance reason. Its simply a (relativly) cheaper alternative to rebuilding a engine if you can score a clean JSpec import.
